If you've decided to use your RingAssist number as your public business number, one of the most important places to update it is your Google Business Profile. This guide walks you through the process step by step, including how to handle Google's phone verification.
Not sure if you should update your number? Read our guide on Dedicated Number vs. Call Forwarding to understand the tradeoffs. Many contractors prefer to keep their existing number and forward calls to RingAssist instead of replacing it everywhere.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- Access to your Google Business Profile (the Google account that manages your listing)
- Your RingAssist phone number (found in your RingAssist dashboard)
- The RingAssist app open on your phone — you'll need it to receive a verification PIN
Step 1: Open Your Google Business Profile
Step 2: Edit Your Phone Number
Google may apply the change immediately, or it may require phone verification first. If verification is required, continue to the next step.
Step 3: Complete Phone Verification
Google sometimes verifies phone number changes by placing an automated call to the new number and reading a PIN code. Since your new number is your RingAssist line, RingAssist will answer that call for you.
Dismissed the pop-up by accident? No problem. Go to the My Phone view in the RingAssist app. All verification PIN codes are saved there under the Verifications section, so you can always retrieve the code.
Step 4: Confirm the Change
Once you've entered the PIN, Google will confirm the verification. Your updated phone number should appear on your Google Business Profile within a few minutes. In some cases, it can take up to 24 hours for the change to appear in Google Search and Maps results.
Enabling Verification Code Capture
RingAssist has a built-in feature called Call Forwarding Verification that captures SMS and phone-based verification codes automatically. If you're not seeing verification pop-ups:
- Open the RingAssist app and go to your phone settings.
- Look for Verification Codes — specifically the Call Forwarding Verification setting.
- Enable it. This allows RingAssist to detect and display verification PINs when services like Google call to verify your number.
You can disable this setting once your verification is complete.
Tips
- Don't request the verification call multiple times in a row. Google may temporarily lock you out if too many verification attempts are made. Wait a few minutes between attempts.
- Make sure RingAssist is active before requesting the verification call. If your RingAssist number isn't active, Google's call won't be answered and you'll need to try again.
- Check your RingAssist dashboard if you don't see the pop-up right away. The PIN will be stored in your Verifications section under the My Phone view.
